The Secret Life

The Secret Life

Many coworkers at her job have wondered how Betsy remains udderly zen during work hours. She rarely complains and is always helpful towards others.

One day, a coworker asked during her lunch break. “Betsy, what’s the secret to remaining calm?”

“Oh…I just work out on a frenzy during my weekends,” Betsy replied nonchalantly.

To this day, no one suspected Betsy as the type to enter in mosh pits during heavy metal concerts.

I love music. But if there’s one genre I’ll listen to forever, it is heavy metal. As odd as it sounds, it keeps me focused and zen. Probably with the high energy factors in most of the songs. Who knows how my brain works.

Speaking of high energy, I went to see Papa Roach, Bad Wolves and Asking Alexandria perform at The Rooftop in Pier 17 on August 11, 2019. I was fortunate to see the email from Spotify a week before the event when it was announced that Papa Roach will be performing in NYC as they’re promoting their new album Who Do You Trust.

The atmosphere was really great. It’s been ages since I visited South Street Seaport with my husband. So it was a nostalgic experience for the both of us when we saw the area newly renovated after it was hit by Hurricane Sandy.

We paid for the lounge upgrade and chilled out for a bit while we waited for the concert to start. Food wise, we tried out their sliders which were yummy. Highly recommend the lobster roll. I was stoked to see Tommy Vext (lead singer of Bad Wolves) up close as he was walking up to the concert area. After Bad Wolves performed, it was Asking Alexandria and then the main event, Papa Roach. Definitely worth the experience and a great way to end the weekend on a good note before heading back to work. 1BA0764D-E0B9-4FC8-A1BE-153827578EB9

One of my goals in life is to visit more heavy metal concerts. Maybe this year and next, it’ll happen more. Let’s see where life takes me.

Hope you’re having a fantastic Wednesday! Let me know in the comments if you’re a heavy metal fan.

Betsy knows that it’s rough out there. All the negativity, the hate, the strife. Makes you want to stay in bed and not move a single inch to face reality. She understands and wants you to know that you’re not alone.

A bit of positivity goes a long way. I want you to know that you’re doing the best you can. Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not doing enough.

You are enough.
You are strong.
You are meant to be here.
You have every reason to exist.
You have the ability to make things better.
You are brave.

Most importantly…

You’re human.

Sending you love and hugs your way. I believe in you. Let me know what you’re going through in the comments below. I’m here to listen.

Sing your heart out

Betsy is hoping to belt out some tunes for her future karaoke trip. Think she’ll have a chance? 🤔

Hi friends 👋 happy August! Can’t believe we are four months away until the end of the year! Time flies when you’re drawing Betsy and having fun 😅

The last time I remember singing was through the Smule karaoke app. It was really nice to see some of my favorite rock songs that I could belt out to when I was feeling down. Unfortunately, my son has this habit of telling me to keep quiet whenever I attempt to sing my favorite tunes out loud. Hence, this is why I prefer singing in the car. Maybe when my son starts Pre-K, I’ll get back on Smule and belt out some tunes while he’s at school.

Do you happen to sing? If so, what are your favorite go-to songs? Let me know in the comments below.

National Lipstick Day

National Lipstick Day

Betsy came to terms with herself that lipstick is just another art medium that you can draw your face with in a tiny tube.

Happy National Lipstick day, friends 👋 I actually don’t wear lipstick as much, except for special occasions. Still, it’s nice to feel glammed up every now and then. My personal favourite is from Besame Cosmetics in “Besame Red.”

What are your favourite lipstick colours and brands? Let me know in the comments below?

Crop top for ALL bodies

Crop top for ALL bodies

Betsy wants you to know that no matter your body type, you CAN rock that crop top you always wanted to wear.

Don’t listen to anyone who says you CAN’T. Society is the problem, not you.

Hi friends 👋 I hope this post finds you well. As many have you seen, I’ve been inactive while I was struggling with my own health issues. I had to make some visits with my OB/GYN and my primary care doctor in taking the next necessary steps for my overall health. Not to mention, taking care of my son who had an allergic reaction that resulted in an ER visit. He’s doing much better. He’s a fighter, just like his mama 🐮

In a nutshell, July has proven to be a hot mess for medical stuff. Doesn’t help that it’s currently under Mercury Retrograde 🤷‍♀️ In any case, this month was a moment of reflection and self care. I’m pretty sure the words “self-care” gets thrown a lot around, but it’s worth repeating. When I’m feeling that sense of guilt if I’m doing the right thing in taking care of myself, these are my affirmations that I love to say out loud:

Self care is not selfish.

Your body and mind needs self care.

Your own health comes first.

You can’t run on an empty tank without treating yourself first.

Don’t expect to help others if you can’t help yourself.

My biggest reward in self care is actually wearing a crop top. And yes, I’m a plus size woman with a large belly, thunder thighs, a very large butt and a double chin.

When I drew Betsy, I envisioned her being confident, care free and being a total badass in rocking her crop top (it reads Udderly Fabulous, in case you’re wondering). I remember feeling scared and vulnerable when I wore my crop top with my yoga pants at home. But once I saw myself and noticed how cute it looked, I felt great.

I’m always inspired and happy to see plus size bloggers, activists, artists, influencers and models embracing their size without fail. And I love how they’re not afraid to shut down haters who make an attempt to police their bodies.

Don’t be afraid to wear what you want. Your fashion, your choices. You don’t need to be thin to rock a certain outfit. Embrace your body to its fullest extent.

By the way, I absolutely adore Lizzo. Fellow Taurus woman and she slays every way possible 🥰

Rock your body this summer and all seasons. You are doing amazing and you deserve to flaunt yourself every way possible 👏

Offline Activities

Offline Activities

Betsy never bothered updating her social media profiles for the past couple of days. She was too busy being engrossed by a steamy love triangle which made her tired after binge reading the entire Romance of the Cows series.

Made with Procreate app.

Betsy sometimes forget to post a status update on her social media profiles, especially when she’s in a binge reading marathon. She wants you to know that she’s alive and well. Although, her poor heart can’t take any more love plot twists and turns…

Been a while since my last post. Feels like forever. But, I have good reason in doing so.

Mercury Retrograde. The end.

Okay, so it’s not entirely true.

I’ve actually spent my time being offline since I was catching up on my writing, programming Episode 2 of Moo Times of Betsy and reading my books that I borrowed from my local library. Considering that Mercury Retrograde season is a time of self-reflection and not taking risks, I decided to practice more mindful moments and slowing down. Health has been an important factor so I’ve been doing what I can in making sure that I feel well.

I don’t know about you, but my mood has been improved ever since I’ve been scaling back on my social media usage. I think it’s important to take breaks in order to avoid burnout. A big accomplishment on my end is writing daily journal entries in focusing on things that I’m grateful for, along with small prayer requests. Highly recommend if you want to shift your perspective from the negativity to moments where you can feel proud of (whether if it’s small or big).

Do you find yourself spending less time on social media? If so, what do you do in terms of offline activities?

Namaste,
Diana
