Guess Betsy wanted to make this known for the post –
I’m not here to blend with the crowd. I’m no ordinary cow.
So…many of you have wondered if Betsy is an actual cow. She’s actually a plush animal 😂 it’s how I portray her in the illustrations. She’s more of a plush animal familiar (i.e. Betsy’s full of magic). Sometimes, she likes to pull tarot cards and do readings. You can see it when viewing my Instagram stories at @redlotusdesignz. You can also check out her bio under the IG highlights “Meet Betsy” to learn more about her.
In fairness, Betsy reminds me not to be a cookie cutter. Sure, she may look like a cow. But that doesn’t mean she acts like one (sometimes she exhibits cat-like behaviour 🤔). In any case, being your own person and identifying your unique nature can scare others. Some of us may be accustomed to seeing the same set of people with personalities, looks, etc. Some folks want to be part of a clique crowd (think Mean Girls) that extends beyond the high school atmosphere. I see this happen online and offline.
It’s a general reminder that you don’t need to fit in society’s “standards” in order to be accepted. Be true to yourself. Be authentic. Be you. Because no one can’t replicate your existence and your purpose for living.
Here’s to living in your own truth and to the beat of your rhythm.
Happy Monday, friends! Here’s a quote that Betsy would like to share with y’all:
Change is part of the growth cycle. Understand why the change is happening in your life.
Maybe it’s the stereotypical part of my Taurean nature, but I don’t like change. I like to do things in a routine and remain comfortable. Perhaps it’s a flaw on my own end. Or maybe I’m just lazy 😂
In any case, change is a crucial part in our lives. No matter what point in your life you’re currently experiencing, every change is happening for a reason. Some changes are planned. Some changes aren’t.
It’s important to recognise why these changes are happening. Whether if the answers are immediate or at a later time, it will be known one way or another.
Have you experienced a moment in your life where change occurred and had to reflect as to why it happened? I would love to read your responses below 💭
Betsy tried her hardest when she visited the local craft store to buy some yarn 🧶 She wanted to make a simple scarf for her Mister but she ended up buying more than needed.
Webcomic created with Procreate app.
Happy Friday, friends! Took the day off from work for a medical visit. The little one needed his flu shot and a haircut just before school starts. Here’s to hoping for a smooth transition and more time for me to work on my illustrations and programming on all things Betsy related 🐮 Did a simple prayer and tarot reading while writing down my intentions on what I would like to achieve during the New Moon in Virgo phase. My Moon in Virgo is feeling this so that explains the need for a more productive day, I guess.
Speaking of projects…I finally got back into loom knitting after putting it off for some time (i.e motherhood and job). Now that things are winding down for a bit, I figured it would be great to work on a blanket for my Pillow Pet Cow. And yes, for the kid as well 😛 the cold season is approaching so might as well be prepared.
If there’s one thing I know about going to Michaels, it can be heaven to my creative soul but hell on my wallet. It’s even worse when you are a frequent customer at the establishment (as noted in my tweet below):
I bought some yarns that are from Yarinspirations Caron x Pantone brand. I’m also getting a knitting machine in the mail that I hope to use when making scarves and hats in bulk.
I used to crochet, but I find that keeping the stitches straight has been a challenge. Even in making simple dolls was hard on my coordination. The only time I would use crochet is if I’ll do some simple finishing designs at the end of my work or just bind pieces together with the leftover yarn.
Do you happen to knit / crochet? Ever felt tempted to buy almost every single product at your local craft store? Let me know in the comments below 💭
Betsy found a new friend and it’s a Venus Fly Trap. It’s name is Vivi. She wanted to name it Sailor Venus, but Vivi sounded easier to pronounce.
Animation made with FlipaClip.
I recently acquired a Venus Fly Trap during my trip to the NY Hall of Science and fell in love with it!
Do you have a Venus Fly Trap at home? If so, let me know!
Mercury Retrograde is usually a time where we need to take a back seat, mind our business and making sure that we avoid miscommunications. Oh, and expecting the worst from technological equipment.
Unfortunately for Betsy, she ends up picking fights, even if no one intentionally upset her. Poor cow.
How do you cope with Mercury Retrograde? Let me know in the comments!
Hi friends 👋 wishing everyone a safe Independence Day! Did a quick animation of Betsy waving the USA flag while fireworks are in the background 🎆 🇺🇸 GIF was made using FlipaClip! Had a lot of fun using their app on my iPad 😊 be sure to check out their Instagram page!
Out of a whim, I went out to visit the New York Hall of Science to check out the Above & Beyond and Connected Worlds exhibits. A fun experience with the family and plenty of opportunities to learn some cool stuff on science and nature.
A great way to spend the day! What are your plans for the holiday?
Hi friends 👋 I decided to get my hands on the ArtSnacks July 2019 subscription box, which features the theme of watercolours. I adore watercolours a lot as this is what I mostly use for my Betsy illustrations.
Each of the items in my box worked so well together, it was impossible not to get giddy on the art supplies ☺️
Since the two watercolour paints are rose and yellow, I decided to incorporate them to my illustration piece featuring Betsy as a flamenco dancer. Doesn’t she look lovely in her dress?
I did a quick review on the ArtSnacks box, which you can find here on my IGTV channel. And, if you’re interested in trying out ArtSnacks, you can check out this link here to take 10% off your first subscription box.
I hope you had an udderly fantastic Wednesday!
